Everybody’s favorite 1818! The heavy, bisecting obverse die break mimics damage and has led more than one collector astray. High grade pieces are rare. Herrman posts a Condition Census that includes but one mint state coin, with an AU 53 at #5. Here is a pretty AU. For once the obverse is the favored side, blessed with a halo of iridescent turquoise toning. Dave Kahn passed this important coin to Tim at the 2012 FUN show. Estimate: $4,000 and up
