A curious yet beguiling blend of copper, turquoise and golden toning alerts the eye to a special coin. Mint state 1814s are trophies for serious collectors; with attractive toning they are distinct rarities. Over time this die pair evolved to the charismatic single-leaf variety. Dick found the coin some years ago at Brian Perry’s Cape Cod Gold & Silver Coin shop in Falmouth, MA. Smooth surfaces and a bold portrait of Liberty befit the assigned grade. Estimate: $3,500 to $4,500.
