1814/3 -  O.101  R.6+ PCGS VF 30

A new entry into the scant population of a baker’s dozen or so pieces.  The strike is soft but you will love the original toning and pristine surfaces.  There are hints of luster around the legend.  Al Overton never spotted an 1814/3 without die breaks.  To this day it is missing in the Overton Collection.  My few encounters with this rarity include the Meyer/Prouty (raw) VF 20, sold privately for $1,500 during the August 2008 ANA Convention.  A year earlier an ANACS EF 40 sold for $1,815 in MB 33, lot 165.  That coin reappeared in MB 52 (August 2021, lot 71) as PCGS VF 35, where it brought $3,025.  The nicest example I’ve seen is the PCGS XF 45 in MB 43, lot 24 at the August 2016 World’s Fair of Money in Anaheim.   It sold for $3,575 to a Georgia collector.  Here is a rare opportunity to acquire a handsome example of the prime 1814/3.  Estimate: $1,000 and up.
