1814 E over A - O.108a R.1 PCGS AU 58

A stunning coin with intense luster, bold obverse strike and pastel gold halo. The eagle’s head, motto and left wing are superior to most of this variety. Low grade examples of this charismatic Red Book staple are common. Choice AU specimens are decidedly uncommon. The PCGS AU 58 offered by Heritage at the August 2024 World’s Fair of Money, lot 3379, brought $7,500. This example is a match in detail, with more vibrant luster. Liz Coggan located the coin and sold it privately to the consignor. Estimate: $6,000 to $7000.
