The “Button Cap” is elusive in high grade; it’s been a dozen years since I’ve handled a choice AU. This museum-quality example features a sharply struck early die state, with dramatic luster flowing beneath iridescent antique toning. The surfaces are generally smooth, with no signs of actual circulation. A couple of stray hairlines require a loupe to see. Give this one an “A” for eye appeal! Estimate: $2,000 to $2,500.
