The consignor outbid me when this coin sold for $3,120 in Stack’s/Bowers’ March 2021 sale of the Richard Jewell collection (earlier in the Harry Einstein collection, S/B Nov. 2012, lot 1692). Blinding luster and near perfect surfaces confirm the coin’s Mint State status. Well struck to boot. Just 2 of 49 known die pairs for this year boast a curl base 2. Estimate: $2,500 to $3,000.
