A lovely, high grade coin, last seen 19 years ago in MB 33. Here is the description of lot 160. “Light grey toning, with appealing iridescence. The peripheries include hues of gold, copper and sea green. The luster is distinctly stronger through the stars and legend.” I should have noted the unusually sharp strike of the central devices. Weakness at the motto and lowest drapery lines seems inevitable on this scarce die pair. The discovery of several low to mid-grade O.109s required a drop in Al Overton’s R.5 rarity rating. High grade pieces remain scarce. Estimate: $1,000 to $1,500.
