An ancient dove-grey patina should discourage those who would try to “improve” this lovely remnant of the early Mint.  Original is the watchword for the coin.   The strike is superior to most and the surfaces are virtually free of contact marks.  CAC certification came sometime after the coin brought $3,055 in Ira and Larry Goldberg’s pre-Long Beach sale of June 2016, lot 962.   Estimate: $2,700 to $3,500.
